Art-Lab: Tyvek ( for ABEurope)

for ABEurope ( AlteredBooksEurope - yahoogroup) I joined a project called Art-Lab. Its about finding out about a certain material or technique. My job is to find out a bout Tyvek. I got some little envelopes made of Tyvek and I had not heraded about it I though that might be an interessting project. I stared searching and found out quite a bit. Tyvek in art is not that widly know, but it is a meterial used on buildingsites and for other techniqual things. It is very light weight and very strong. i have not stred making my own experiments, but I have found some good links!!! Here they are:

What is Tyvek? - scientific article:

Working with Tyvek - articel about using Tyvek for art

Does your embroidery pass the Texture Test?
Try Tyvek! - article about using Tyvek for art

Two books that do mention Tyvek and working with it ( you can have a look at the previews of the books!!!):

Creative Stamping With Mixed Media Techniques by Sherrill Kahn

Creative Cloth Doll Making : New Approaches for Using Fibers, Beads, Dyes, and Other Exciting Techniques by Patti Medaris Culea

This project will be continued!!! If you do have any more information about Tyvek, that might be helpfull, please post it in the comments!!!

'Bonding and Beyond' Jan Beaney & Jean Littlejohn has a chapter on Mixed Media Bonding using Tyvek (also known as fibre film). It has been around in England for quite some time; I experimented with it a few years ago. I think I have a piece somewhere in which I used it for texture on a ploughed field. Good luck with your research.
